HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT READING NOOK IN THE HOUSE

Reading has always been an important part of learning and an enjoyable pastime. Reading nooks provide comfortable, quiet places to retreat to and curl up with a good book. They aren’t just for reading, either. A nook is great for drawing, writing, or listening to music. A reading nook is a perfect way to set aside a peaceful spot in your room.

1. Zone off your space

Define your reading corner from the rest of your room by painting it in a different color scheme. Another simple way is putting a low dresser perpendicular to one wall to give the impression of division, or it can be as complicated as hanging curtains around the nook to create a canopy. The division will give you a sense of ownership of the nook and keep others from invading your private space.

You can add some ideas like surrounding yourself and your personal haven with sweet aromas. Decorating a season-themed concept by using candles or arrange a vase of flowers, then place it in your nook to help you further unwind.

2. Position lamps accordingly

Creating a dedicated reading space is possible no matter the size of your home, even in small living spaces. Let brighten up your space with light. Ample light is the perfect way to capitalize on moments of inspiration that might come to you as you read. Find a light that strikes a balance between lighting needs and your level of comfort.

For daytime reading, nothing beats glorious daylight. If it gets too bright, pull across the curtains to prevent the direct sunlight from beaming onto your reading material.

For reading at night, a simple lamp will do, as long as it is adjustable. Another option is to buy a desk or floor lamp. You could also hang a reading light or globe light above the reading nook.

3. Choosing reasonable furniture

Do you want a big fluffy chair that swallows you up? Do you want a chair that you can curl up in? Do you prefer a bunch of pillows on the floor or a beanbag instead? Or do you want a woven bench that doubles as a coffee table and an ottoman?

Consider how much space you have for seating as well. If you have a lot of room, a chaise lounge will create a luxurious feel. If you don’t have a lot of space, a hanging chair or floor pillows will work well.

Besides, by bringing nature outside in, our moods improve, and stress is banished. A reading nook should be a place where we can relax, so why not surround it with a grouping of oh-so-green houseplants? For example, Palms create an especially tropical vibe in the reading nook. It’s even better still if you can use a corner near a window, to embrace the nature outside also.

4. Make use of every inch of space

When space is limited ensure you use it wisely. A simple reading nook placed within a recess can provide the perfect place to sit and enjoy a good book. Dressing the top with cushions ensures comfort is not compromised.

Another selection is a window area, particularly one with a pretty view, which can easily be transformed into a chillin’ nook. Built-in banquettes topped with seat pads offer a cozy, space-saving solution, but if you don’t want to call in the builders, get the look with benches instead.

5. Keep it simple with an occasional chair

Some people don’t have enough space to build a personal nook. In this case, there is no need to make your reading corner too obvious. The best solution is creating a subtle space to escape with a good book and a cup of coffee or tea by placing a chair in a calming spot when needed.

6. Make It a Spot for Impromptu Naps

A reading nook doesn’t have to be solely for reading. It can be your official spot to unwind and recharge, a place where the occasional, unplanned nap is totally acceptable. Therefore, you can consider putting a sofa, small bed or multi-function chairs to both sit and lie comfortably best.
